Care Certificate
The Care Certificate Framework requires new care workers to complete training and be assessed to competence by managers before they can practice without supervision.
This course is part of a full training programme that provides the knowledge elements of the new framework.
Who is it for?
Any worker giving direct care in residential or nursing homes, hospices, homecare or domiciliary settings – for example: healthcare assistants, care support workers. Volunteers, cooks, drivers, etc., who have direct contact with individuals may require some elements as part of their induction.
Objectives:
On completion of this course, you will be able to:
Describe how to use reflective practice to improve skills and knowledge
Describe how to use feedback from others and learning activities to improve skills and knowledge base
Explain why continuing professional development is important
Explain the terms ‘diversity’, ‘equality’, ‘inclusion’ and ‘discrimination’
Identify which legislation and codes of practice relating to equality, diversity and inclusion apply to your role and where to gain further advice and support
Describe how to challenge discrimination in a way that promotes positive change
Describe how to put person centred values into practice every day, supporting people to make choices
Explain the importance of supporting individuals to plan their future well-being and fulfilment
Explain the importance of individual identity and self-esteem and how these are linked to emotional and spiritual well being
Describe the importance of effective communication at work
List a range of communication methods to overcome barriers to effective communication
List legislation that relates to confidentiality and how to work in ways that promote good practice
Define the term ‘dignity in care’ and the importance of maintaining this in the work setting
Explain the importance of having secure systems for recording, storing and sharing information.
