The aim of this course is to move and handle people in a way that requires the least amount of effort, provides greater comfort and dignity to the patient or resident and ensuring that the person moving, and handling looks after their own back and the back of the patients/residents. The students will get taught how to conduct a personal risk assessment for patients/residents and safety move people with and without use of specialist equipment.

At the end of the session participants will be able to:
State their obligations and that of their employers with regard to manual handling.
Understand the consequences of poor manual handling practice.
Take appropriate action in the event of a manual handling manoeuvre being required within their working environment
Identify the correct manoeuvre for use on a range of different manual handling situations.
